His soulful melodies punctuated by tight, head nodding beats and rhymes made him the first ever hip hop artist to crowd-source US$50,000 to record his debut solo album Close To Home.

The album is a journey through sound into the tragedies and victories of an everyday hero who has taken his craft from Christchurch, New Zealand to stages in New York, Hong Kong, London and Amsterdam.

Heading into 2009 I’m excited for another eventful year. I had an amazing 2008 with music, people and places and can’t wait to keep it movin!

In other news…

A new and improved US president is a good way to start 2009 but one of his first challenges internationally is gonna be what’s kicking off in Israel again… if you didn’t know, the Gaza Strip is a fully fledged warzone and it’s not looking good. Israel look like they are trying to make a point and America will have to show their cards. Anyway… somtimes it doesn’t seem like there is much we can do, but when we all speak together our voices are heard. So, if you can find a second, sign the petition at the link above and spread the word.
