maitreya's blog...

Hailing from Christchurch New Zealand maitreya is an MC with a mood and a message to renew the faith of Hip Hop heads worldwide. His soulful melodies punctuated by tight, head nodding beats and rhymes made him the first ever hip hop artist to crowd-source US$50,000 to record his debut solo album Close To Home.

The album is a journey through sound into the tragedies and victories of an everyday hero who has taken his craft from Christchurch, New Zealand to stages in New York, Hong Kong, London and Amsterdam.

So dig out your De La Soul, cue up your Lupe Fiasco, slap on some Streets and they will all be in good company... you'll recognize the emotional honesty and depth, but like all great artists... maitreya does it his way.

The Audacity of Hope…

Kia Ora! Barack Obama is President Elect!!! I just wrote to my American friends and thought i’d post it here cos it represents how I feel about this event. We got round two coming up in NZ on Saturday… Viva Greens!! Viva Obama!!

Good Morning!

I just went thru my address book and found all my friends who also happen to be American (or living there so long you got an accent ;o)

I wanted write you guys to extend my congratulations and support in electing Barack Obama president of the United States. I followed the campaign closely and became increasingly impressed with Baracks intelligence and humanity as the weeks turned into months and the ideological battles became more and more obtuse. When finally November 4th came along I found myself more emotionally invested in the result of an election than any before… anywhere.

I have to keep reminding myself that the words we have heard so far are campaign trail promises and appeals to the raw emotional desperation that characterizes our times. But Barack Obama has a once in a generation ability to truly move people. There is something in Barack Obama, or more correctly, something in the reaction he elicits from everyday people all over America and the globe that makes me believe he could be a truly great leader of change and a person who could inspire both America and the world towards a new and brighter day.

We all feel instinctively that the chances of true change are slim. However, this man has ushered in a feeling I personally had long lost in the arena of world politics. An instinct I had all but put to the side as childish idealism and unrealistic optimism. Barack Obama has given me back the audacity of hope.

So congratulations on achieving that which we thought we might never see in our lifetimes… a Peoples President.

Love & Light, m
